Wai Shabbat uses your location to look up accurate candle lighting and havdalah times from Hebcal.com. Times are specific to your city and update automatically each week.
Shabbat times vary by geographic location. The app uses your location only to determine the correct zmanim (halachic times) for your area. Your raw coordinates never leave your device — only a city identifier is sent to Hebcal.
Make sure notifications are enabled for Wai Shabbat in your device Settings. On iOS, go to Settings → Notifications → Wai Shabbat and ensure “Allow Notifications” is on with sound enabled. Also check that your device is not in Do Not Disturb or Focus mode.
Yes. You can configure alarms to fire a set number of minutes before candle lighting, so you have time to prepare for Shabbat.
All your data (alarm settings, preferences, cached times) is stored locally on your device. Nothing is sent to our servers. To remove all data, simply delete the app.
Wai Shabbat displays the weekly Torah portion (parashah) text, fetched from Sefaria.org. This lets you read or review the portion as part of your Shabbat preparation.
